Win vs St Ivo
Morning everybody.
The morning after the night before.
Simon Morris captained last night, so this will show if he has the mettle to rally his team.
So first on were the two Simon’s playing veteran Ali Paul (playing Moz) and young whippersnapper (all 20 stone of him) Danny Caulkett (playing Barker).
A late start so Simon’s admin already letting him down. He’s on court 4 playing some good squash and always in control and had too much fitness, speed and finesse (yes I did say finesse) for Ali Paul.
On court 3 was the rubber of the night, with SB trying to redeem himself after losing last week to a two year old. Another banana skin against another youngster. Will it be another 100% [losing] record??
The word of the match, sublime. Well that’s what I think I kept hearing, but closely followed by the word ridiculous. Not quite sure what the crowd meant.
Anyway , the bits I saw of it were two lads trying to burst a ball, and get the ball as close to the T as possible so their opponent could do the same. Simon tried hard to win that battle of closest to the T, but just failed, hitting a few good widths and lengthens now and again to close out a 3-2 win.
The ‘point of the night’ was Barker from the front hitting the ball straight down the middle, Danny flatfooted on the T, hits him straight in the midriff, and the calls for the crowd of good width summed it all up.
Jon O at 3 playing Matt Dixon, there normal 2 but just coming back. Literally man and boy, apart from the hairy nature of both players, with Jon O winning at a canter (the squash and hirsuteness). Performance of the night.
So quickly on to Partie and Bez…
Two tall players in Partie and his opponent, so quite a bit of volleying, and good retrieving as the courts were playing pretty warm. Partie won in three but two games went to 13 and it was obvious both players went pretty tired even halfway thru the second (or couldn’t be bothered).
Bez played a Mancester lad at 1, so couldn’t understand most of the conversations (in fact I could but I was asleep). The Happy Mondays’ ensemble proceeded to play different games, Bez picking up everything, hitting better length then his opponent, forcing the short ball, then playing tight at the front. Always going one way, with just a jitter in the second when he let his opponent get game ball, but stepped up the pressure to take the win 3 zip.
A 20- 2 win , with the gentlemen of Fenland next week.
Down to the pub, with the new pies going down a treat. Specially inspired and cooked in readiness for Robbo’s return from Sciatica (I looked it up on Wikipedia and it says old age) were the rabbit pies.
